Residential life & Wellbeing
A place to live, learn, belong and grow.
A Home Away From Home
At Thimphu High School, residential life is an important part of the educational experience. As a fully residential school, we want students to feel that they are not simply staying at school—they are becoming part of a caring community.
Our residential programme is designed to provide students with a safe, supportive and family-oriented environment where they can develop academically, socially and personally.
Through structured routines, pastoral care, academic support, recreation, friendships and meaningful responsibilities, students gradually develop the confidence and independence they need for life beyond school.
More Than a Dormitory
For a boarding student, the residence becomes an important part of everyday life. It is where students rest, study, build friendships, share experiences and learn how to live responsibly with others.
The THS residential environment is designed to provide a balance between care and independence.Students will learn to manage their personal routines, respect shared spaces, work with others and take increasing responsibility for their own choices. The residence is connected to the academic block, allowing students to move naturally between their academic and residential environments.
Residential facilities include:
- Separate residential floors for boys and girls
- Comfortable dormitory accommodation
- Internet access
- Recreation spaces
- Study and academic support
- Dining facilities
- Access to clubs and activities
- Pastoral supervision

Safe. Supported. Heard.
Student Wellbeing
At THS, wellbeing is not something that happens separately from education.
A student’s ability to learn is influenced by how they feel, how connected they are to others and how confident they are in managing everyday challenges. Cambridge’s own wellbeing guidance describes wellbeing as influencing students’ school experience, engagement and potential.
Our approach therefore seeks to support the whole student:
1. Emotional Wellbeing
Helping students understand themselves, communicate their feelings and seek support when they need it.
2. Social Wellbeing
Creating a respectful community where students develop friendships, empathy and a sense of belonging.
3. Physical Wellbeing
Encouraging healthy routines, physical activity, sports, outdoor experiences and appropriate rest.
4. Academic Wellbeing
Helping students develop healthy study habits, manage responsibilities and seek academic guidance.
5. Personal Wellbeing
Encouraging confidence, independence, resilience and responsible decision-making.
Mindful Thinking. Mindful Speaking. Mindful Listening.
At THS, mindfulness is more than a practice—it is a way of living and learning. Students are encouraged to pause before reacting, speak with kindness, and listen with understanding. Through these simple habits, we nurture self-awareness, empathy and respect, helping students become calmer, more thoughtful and compassionate members of the THS community.
